Description

Silk shading, sometimes called painting with threads, is a hand embroidery technique that combines threads, blending them together to create beautiful effects. In this inspiring, yet relaxing, workshop you will create your own silk shaded artwork of an image of your choice - you can design your own or use one of the templates provided. What we will do The workshop begins with learning how to transfer your design to fabric, using my tried and tested method - with no drawing skills needed at all. We then look at the different threads that can be used and how they will affect the look of your completed artwork. After a demonstration of the most popular stitches for silk shading you'll embroider your own unique artwork. Throughout the workshop I'll be on hand to show you new hand embroidery stitches to enhance your embroidery, make suggestions, offer tips and provide one to one support to each person. To finish the workshop off, we'll have time to discuss finishing methods including framing or turning your silk shading into more functional artwork. Creating your silk shading in a small group of maximum of 8, allows for plenty of support and guidance when needed, a chance to ask all of the questions you have as well as being able to get to know those at the workshop with you. This workshop is for those with some embroidery experience, through to the more accomplished embroiderer who would like to develop their embroidery knowledge and skills in a supportive environment. Beginners may struggle with the more technical aspects of this workshop - if you are unsure please do contact me. The workshop is designed to offer protected creative time, without pressure to do day to day tasks like putting the laundry on! A chance to develop your skills and connect with like minded people away from the busy world around us. What's included All materials are included. If you have an image you would like to re-create please feel free to bring it with you. Venue and Timings The workshop is held at The Weigh To Shop, Durham from 2 -5pm. The shop will be closed to the public for the duration of the workshop. You are welcome to browse, stock up on products and purchase refreshments during the workshop. There is parking outside The Weigh To Shop and also a short distance away. Free tickets are available for carers who do not take part in workshop activity.
