Art Workshops for Schools
Working in schools and educational settings is important to me,
as I believe that we need to pass art and creative skills on to
younger generations of people to keep them alive and to
celebrate our history. The workshops I deliver are centred
around building creative confidence, creating unique artwork
and boosting self-esteem. Workshops can explore techniques
of hand embroidery, creative repair, using sewing machines,
free motion embroidery, weaving and printing on fabric.
I have a range of experience working in schools with students
of all ages, as well as experience of working with teachers to
provide support in and out of the classroom. Workshops can be
adapted to meet the needs of curriculum and be based on many
different class topics.
Within schools I have led collaborative workshops in which each student creates an element of larger work. These pieces are then brought together into one larger final outcome such as a banner or art installation. I can work with you to enable easy hanging of the artwork. This work is often centred around co-creation and emphasises skills such as collaborative working and listening to others. I have also led workshops in which students create their own individual work that can be then added to displays or into a portfolio. Some projects see an element of both ways of working.
I am also able to undertake residencies within schools, embedding
textiles into daily school life and working with pupils on a range of
projects.
I work flexibly to meet the aims of your project and am able to adapt
to create bespoke workshops and sessions for your students.
For older students, I am also able to provide talks around careers
in the creative sector.
I have experience of working with students from a variety of
backgrounds and with a range of additional needs.
I have an enhanced DBS and Public Liability Insurance.
More details about workshops and projects I have delivered in
schools can be found in the booklet below.
