Next Steps in Free Motion Embroidery Free Motion Embroidery is the art of mark making or drawing with your sewing machine, using the needle as a pen or pencil. What We Will Do This workshop introduces you to the next steps in free motion embroidery. We will explore embroidery on a range of different backgrounds and fabrics including paper, organdie, organza and fabric alongside learning a selection of different embroidery stitches. We’ll look at how to manipulate the colour of threads and using the tension to create different effects. The workshop will finish with a chance to either create your own small free motion embroidered artwork or to keep exploring the techniques learnt during the workshop. There will be lots of demonstrations as well as individual guidance throughout the workshop. Creating your free motion embroidery in a small group of maximum of 8, allows for plenty of support and guidance when needed, a chance to ask all of the questions you have as well as being able to get to know those at the workshop with you. This workshop is for those who have some free motion embroidery experience. You will need to know how to set your machine up for free motion embroidery and also how to create basic lines and marks with free motion embroidery. If you have are unsure if this the right level of workshop for you please do contact me – I’m always happy to answer questions. What’s Included All materials are included. Please bring your own sewing machine in good working order, along with bobbins, free motion or darning foot and instruction manual if you have it. Venue and Timings The workshop is held at The Weigh To Shop, Durham from 2 -5pm. The shop will be closed to the public for the duration of the workshop. You are welcome to browse, stock up on products and purchase refreshments during the workshop. There is parking outside The Weigh To Shop and also a short distance away. There is help available to carry your sewing machines in if needed. Free tickets are available for carers who do not take part in workshop activity. Please contact me to arrange prior to the workshop.
