Description

Furoshiki are traditional Japanese wrapping cloths ideal for all sorts of gifts and are a perfect alternative to using paper and plastic to wrap presents at any time of the year, not just Christmas. Being able to use the cloths over and over again is a thoughtful eco-friendly choice. In this workshop you will make your own Furoshiki Wrapping cloth decorated with beautiful embroidery or prints from stamps. This is a free flowing workshop with the choice of using printing methods or stitch yours to make - you can even try both or combine the two on the same cloth if you would like to. Depending on your choice of size of cloth and decorating technique you may be able to make more than one cloth. You can create wrapping cloths to suit the tastes of the recipient making their gift a truly personal one. By the end of the workshop you will have learnt a series of printing and stitching techniques as well as created one or more Furoshiki Wrapping cloths, making yours a more sustainable and thoughtful Christmas. The workshop is suitable for people of all levels of embroidery experience from the complete beginner to the more accomplished embroiderer. All materials are provided. This workshop also includes a beautifully curated gift set consisting of a selection of fabrics and threads to ensure you can continue creating after the workshop, artist greetings cards and an exclusive needleminder. The colours and designs of the contents will be different in each box. All of my workshops are designed to teach new skills as well as to develop creative confidence. They are welcoming to everyone, with a relaxed, informative and inspiring atmosphere. I have a flexible approach to teaching, allowing participants to follow their own interests and develop work that they can be proud of. I work with each person individually to ensure that they are developing the skills needed to realise their project – and if you have no idea what you want to do I’ll help with that too! I truly believe that art is all about expressing yourself and this is what I encourage you to do. I’ll have lots of samples to inspire you, but always support you to make your own work – after all who needs several pieces of art that are all exactly the same! I’ve taught workshops in this way for many years and people are always surprised with what they achieve. The workshop will be held at the Community Hall (Theatre) Saltburn by the Sea from 10am - 1pm. I'll be in touch nearer time with how to find the room.
