Heirloom Threads Christening Gown is a Victorian inspired textile artwork inspired by embroidery samplers, with each stitch whispering of tradition displayed in a contemporary and unusual way. All the elements of Victorian samplers we know and love are embroidered on to a vintage replica Victorian christening gown, creating an heirloom piece designed to be worn or displayed, becoming a precious keepsake for generations to come.
Heirloom Threads is embroidered using Victorian embroidery techniques and stitches - including tufting to create those beautiful fluffy bees, with embroidery on both front and back of the gown. The base is adorned with the alphabet and numbers with the phrases associated with samplers hand embroidered on both the central back and front of the gown. The artwork is intended to celebrate the often ignored work of women and girls.
