Crashing Wave, a unique hand stitched textile sculpture created from silk fibres evoking memories of stormy oceans. Shades of blues, turquoise, greys and green silk fibres have been skilfully combined and innovatively sculpted to create those colours we see in crashing waves forcefully coming to the shore. The swirling lines of delicate hand embroidery emphasise the strong movements of the tides during a storm.
Inspired by memories of the sea, Crashing Wave reflects the essence of the sea through the chosen materials. The sea is made up of tiny droplets of water; alone they are weak and unassuming, yet combined together to make up the vast sea they are strong and awe-inspiring. Silk fibres were chosen to create this work as they reference this exceptionally well. Each individual silk fibre is similar to the hair on your head; very fine and prone to breakage; yet combined in this way they are surprisingly strong.

Crashing Wave is an intriguing piece of textile art; it looks so delicate and the paper feel to it suggests that, yet it is relatively hard wearing.
