Colourful Boro, a contemporary blend of Boro Boro hand stitch with a modern twist that encapsulates the traditions of Boro work. Boro embroidery traditionally uses pre-loved fabrics and this artwork has combined fabrics from previous projects - denim, cotton and jersey in varying shades of blue. The hand stitched details are in bright colours featuring greens and pinks. The combination of fabrics and threads create a highly impactful piece of textile art.
 
Boro embroidery originated in Japan from those who lived in abstract poverty. Textiles had to last as long as possible, so were repeatedly patched and stitched all over to give strength and longevity. Each piece of Boro work tells a story though the many layers of fabrics. Traditionally, pre-loved fabrics were used, as they are in this piece, to give new life to clothing and other household textiles.

The hand embroidery creates a stunning texture in pinks and greens, contrasting with the blue of the background fabrics.
