Floral Blackwork, a hand embroidered textile artwork encapsulating the opulence and elegance of the Tudor era. Floral Blackwork is a researched based artwork that takes inspiration from late Tudor coifs and nature, alongside the embroidery techniques of this era combining them to create a unique piece of framed monochrome art.
A coif is a head covering worn by Tudor women, regardless of their social status. Floral Blackwork features silk and metal gold coloured threads on a linen fabric, embroidered with swirling lines and floral elements in response to the coifs worn by women of the upper classes - the amount of embroidery on clothing, along with the type of threads used, denoted the class of the wearer.

Blackwork embroidery has a rich history and is known for its intricate and geometric patterns, making it a perfect choice for creating beautiful wall art . Floral Blackwork is hand embroidered with meticulous attention to detail, taking many hours, using minute stitches to create the delicate geometric infill patterns. Flowers, buds and leaves that were popular for Tudor embroidery are referenced in stitch, to create a timeless piece of black and white artwork, with glimmers of gold shinning through.
The stitches and geometric patterns draw the eye of the audience, who find them intriguing, causing further consideration. Floral Blackwork is for those who appreciate historically inspired artwork; the curvilinear lines and symmetrical design synonymous with the Tudor era. This professionally framed wall art is the perfect finishing touch to any room in a home, making the ideal gift for a loved one, friend or treat for yourself.
The frame measures approximately 46 x 55 centimetres with the work measuring approximately 31 x 41 centimetres.
