Sunny Bank Mills Threads Festival and 62 Group Exhibition

Recently I was part of the Threads festival at Sunny Bank Mills, Leeds. It was such a fabulous event, all things textile related in one room - what's not to like! Many stands selling textile art, some selling supplies and others raising awareness of educational courses and companies that they manage. There were so many valuable textile conversations - thank you to all of those who stopped by, chatted, brought work and booked workshop spaces. It was such a pleasurable weekend.

I was there for a few different reasons - selling artwork and the last of my kits as well as offering demos. For those of you unfamiliar with Sunny Bank Mills, it was founded in 1829 by a group of clothiers, to be a woollen scribbling and fulling mill. Over time the mill evolved and offered different services. Weaving production finally ceased there in 2008.

Now, Sunny Bank Mills is home to a huge number of creative businesses and holds exhibitions, events and workshops alongside archive visits and so much more. You can find more information out here

The 62 group held an art exhibition as part of Threads Festival, which was fascinating. Entitled 'Tailored' the exhibition celebrates textiles and their place in our communities and economy. There was a huge variety of work in the exhibition and it was so interesting to take time and read the inspiration and stories behind each piece of work.

The top images are work by Caren Garfen. Bottom row left to right are Isobel Currie, Jennifer Smith-Windsor and Hannah White. I was especially drawn to these artworks for the stories they told and shared. The exhibition is on until 2nd July and well worth visiting. More information can be found here.

Sunny Bank Mills is a very interesting place and we really liked this felting machine that is now in the car park!

Next on my list of exhibitions to go to is a Matisse prints exhibition at Beverly Art Gallery. I'd love to hear your thoughts if you visited the 62 Group exhibition, Threads Festival or if you have suggestions of other exhibitions.
