Guisborough Giant Festival

The giant festival explored the story of the giants, who were moving home under the cover of darkness. On the way the unfortunately the giants lost many belongings and these were recreated with different community groups to form a trail across Guisborough. The large scale banner that I co-created with people from the local community shared the giants new home and what they envisaged would be there.

Through a series of workshops we designed the banner, beginning with a design session to explore everyone's ideas. The common themes were chosen to move forwards with and we began the process of creating templates.

Over the next four weeks we came together to create the banner, painting the background and making the textile elements. Participants learnt a range of embroidery skills, using sewing machines, design skills and working co-creatively together.

When completed the banner measured approximately 5 x 2 metres and was hung in Guisborough Library during the festival. I lead the workshop development, delivered workshops as well as managing the budget for this element of the festival.
