A snippet roll is perfect for bringing together tiny pieces of textile treasure all in one place. A snippet roll is a long piece of fabric, embellished with all sorts of treasure - lace, fabric, beads, buttons, found items and decorated with stitch. In this workshop your snippet roll will be attached to a vintage sewing reel. They can be used in many ways - to bring together and preserve precious pieces of textile and embellishments, to tell a story, to celebrate an event such as a wedding or even have a theme such as Spring, a journey and so on. There are many ways of making snippet rolls; in this workshop the focus is on hand embroidery. I'll take you through how to create the basis for your snippet roll, how to embellish and decorate with stitch - selecting with you the most appropriate stitches for your roll, finally you'll learn how to attach your snippet roll to the thread reel and create a fastening if you would like to. Words can look really special on a snippet roll; my vintage typewriter will be available to use if you would like to create your own words or letters. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience - from complete beginners to more accomplished embroiderers. All materials are included, along with refreshments. If you have pieces of fabric, embellishments, small found items or other textile treasures you would like to include please feel free to bring them with you. If you have one, please bring a basic sewing kit including needles and embroidery scissors. You'll also need to provide your own lunch - there is a fridge for packed lunches and lots of cafes and takeaways nearby. The workshop is held at Articentric, 1 Dundas Street West, Saltburn, TS12 1BL and runs from 10-3.
