During the course of Sunday, we’ll explore and discover natural dyeing and eco-printing. Natural dyeing is a fascinating art of dyeing fabrics to achieve a range of colours. Using both fresh and extracted dyes you’ll learn how to create dye pots and dye fabrics and threads, using simple methods easily re-created at home. You’ll also explore the use of mordants to ensure dyes are colourfast, but to also alter the colour of the dye. Eco printing is a form of natural dyeing, transferring the colour and shape from plants on to fabric and paper. The workshop teaches you how to successfully gain prints from natural materials, again using easy to re-create methods. For some parts of natural dyeing and eco-printing it is best to leave the fabric for a few days. When we meet again on Wednesday evening there will be the chance to show your fabrics with fellow students. You will also be able to creatively use your fabrics, threads and papers to begin to make original artwork with them. All materials will be provided; please feel free to bring along any plants, leaves or flowers you would like to use along with any fabrics or threads you would like to dye. This workshop is limited to three people, ensuring you get the most from the processes and tutor guidance. Refreshments are provided; however, you will need to bring your own lunch.
