Those Days, a large scale framed hand embroidered textile artwork, inspired by days that have passed, challenges that have been faced whilst considering those snippets and keepsakes we preserve and what they say about us. Those Days suggests, yet does not reveal, what those past times have been inviting the viewer to consider what they may be. Featuring a selection of neutral coloured creamy and brown papers with dashes of blues and dark yellow browns from treasured fabrics and sunflower petals.
 
Entirely hand stitched primarily on paper using vintage threads, Those Days is created from a background of lightly textured Abaca Tissuetex and features different paper snippets including words from vintage books, music scores, handmade paper and khadi paper. The different papers create a series of textures, much like the bumps and smooth elements of life, with raised and highly textured areas of handmade papers through to the smooth words from books. The papers are carefully combined with tiny pieces of fabrics along with real sunflower petals and real leaves - reminiscent of those things collected on a woodland walk.

Those Days was created in my studio using highly skilled embroidery techniques, innovatively combined unusual textile materials with much care and attention to detail. The handmade paper snippets being provided from other artworks adding a lovely storytelling element.
