Secrets, a free standing textile artwork, that explores past secrets and memories reminiscent of postcards and letter writing. Secrets asks questions of the viewer, narrating a tale yet not fully sharing what the outcome is. Featuring free motion embroidery and a combination of paper and ephemera in a textile collage technique. The curvilinear lines reflecting the to and fro of the story and wider life happenings. Inspired by notions of letter writing and postcards.
The neutral colour palette of Secrets, creams, greys and browns, make it the perfect addition to any decor. Secrets is for those who enjoy conceptual artwork that is open to interpretation in their home or workspace. Ultimately the viewer is left asking who is the woman featured in the artwork? The shorthand writing behind her may provide a hint or could equally be masking her identity.
Secrets is designed to be free standing, propped on a mantelpiece or shelf, much as one would with a postcard to letter received. The work would look equally as effective if framed and wall hung. Secrets was made in my studio in Saltburn by the Sea, where I specialise in creating one off, unique pieces of textile artwork. It measures approximately 23 x 15 cm. The artwork will be expertly packaged to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition, with delivery local to or collection from Saltburn by the Sea available.
Secrets is part of the Reflections Collection; further pieces can be seen here.
Reflections is inspired by the connections we have with those who have gone before us; perhaps in certain traits, identity or looks or perhaps through the special things we keep and pass on to others. Fabrics often in the form of clothing, letters, photos and ephemera are all collected and stored to remind us of times past and to help us treasure memories. This work explores why we keep those specific things and the stories it can tell about us.
