Happy Dance, an unusual textile artwork stitched on paper and ephemera, reflects on those heady memories of a dance protecting and honouring them in stitch. The mainly geometric shapes of the creamy papers combines perfectly with the swirling grey lines of free motion embroidery used to stitch the young woman in the work. The music scores and other snippet from a book gently guide the viewer to consider what is being narrated. Open to interpretation, this piece could be a not too distant memory or a recollection of times gone by.
Happy Dance is designed to reflect the writing and sending of postcards and can therefore be displayed on a shelf or mantelpiece, much as one would with postcards. Alternatively the work can be framed and wall hung. The neutral colour palette of the artwork ensures that it will be a stunning finishing touch to any room of the home including living areas, bedroom or office space. Happy Dance is ideal as a gift for travelling friends, as a first anniversary present (symbolised by paper) or as a new addition to your home. This intriguing artwork is sure to spark conversation and consideration by those who view it.
Happy Dance was made in my studio in Saltburn by the Sea, where I specialise in creating one off, unique pieces of textile artwork. It measures approximately 23 x 15 cm. The artwork will be expertly packaged to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition, with delivery local to or collection from Saltburn by the Sea available.
Happy Dance is part of the Reflections Collection; further pieces can be seen here.
Reflections is inspired by the connections we have with those who have gone before us; perhaps in certain traits, identity or looks or perhaps through the special things we keep and pass on to others. Fabrics often in the form of clothing, letters, photos and ephemera are all collected and stored to remind us of times past and to help us treasure memories. This work explores why we keep those specific things and the stories it can tell about us.
