Hand and machine embroidery on fabric naturally dyed with logwood. Logwood explores the origin and use of this tree as a dye for fabric. Logwood has spiky branches which are depicted in stitch, as is its journey by ship from Brazil. The cloth dyed with Logwood was often made into dresses for ladies of upper classes and the lacings with which these dresses would have been fastened with are also depicted. The colours of the inner tree are prevalent within the work.
